Tigresses WC Cup mission ended

Published : 13 Oct 2024 09:00 PM

Bangladesh lost to South Africa in their last match of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, on the same day when Bangladesh men’s team went down to India in their last match of three-match T20 series in Hyderabad.

However, in Dubai, Bangladesh women scored 106 runs and their Proteas counterpart with 16 balls and seven wickets in hand.

Tigresses World Cup journey has ended with a big consolation of winning a match, that they had in their opener against Scotland. Now it's time to settle accounts - How did the host Bangladesh's World Cup mission?

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s is official host country of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2024 but due to security concerned after the political turmoil, ICC shifted the tournament in UAE.

Bangladesh's only win against Scotland in the first match came after the last four editions of the World Cups. That's all there is to say about the happy memories of Bangladesh in the World Cup. Captain Nigar Sultana Joty's team could not put up much of a fight in the rest of the matches.

Bangladesh could not touch 120 runs in any of their four matches. Batters have plagued Bangladesh throughout the tournament. Tigresses could have got at least one win against England in the ninth. But that was not because of the failure of these batters. Bangladesh played dot ball throughout the tournament. There are also questions about bowling and fielding. The team is returning home with so many questions.

Two of the top four run scorers of the tournament till Saturday are from Bangladesh. Sobhana scored 134 runs in four innings, 104 Joty.

But the condition of others is so startling that the party has to wash. The runs of Sobhana and Nigar were not really useful for the team. No one could play big innings,

they could not bat very fast. Sobhana's strike rate is 88.74, Joty’s 86.66.

Joty is so disappointed with this. She Said, “The problem is very visible that as a batting unit we are failing. If we get off to a good start in the power play, the middle order needs to shine. Sometimes it doesn't finish as it should. So we are going with many questions. We have to find answers to the questions in the way ahead.”

Jyoti also said, “The bowlers did well, the batters could not score runs. England scored 119 runs, we couldn't chase that. It is our failure,” said Joty.

About the improvement of the team, the skipper said, "At this stage, the cricketers should be stronger mentally. The team is quite experienced, I would say. But when it comes to such tournaments, if there is no team effort or no individual performance is not enough to win a match.
