Tigers should not take Ireland team lightly

Published : 16 Mar 2023 09:51 PM

The second stint of the Tigers, who played an one day match after the name of BCB X1 went down to the touring Ireland side in ODI match, which is an alertness for the national side ahead of their series to begin from tomorrow.

Ireland warmed up well when they began their tour with winning note defeating the BCB X1 in a one day match by 77 runs (DLS Method) in Sylhet on Wednesday when the home team were all out for 181 runs replying to the visitors 255 runs.

Meanwhile, might be it is the first time Sylhet and Jahur Ahmed Stadium are going to host a complete series when Ireland will play the ODI series in Sylhet and the T20 series at Chattogram with only one off Test match will take place at the at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

However, the Irelands win in the one-day match in Sylhet is a cautionary signal for the Tigers when they will begin their ODI series from tomorrow.

It can be mentioned, there are talking about the England’s T20 squad was formed with a limited members with leaving some of their regular performers.

From different quarters – cricket analysts and fans expressed their expertise that England might be underestimated and took the Tigers lightly after winning the ODI series, as they believed that this squad would be enough to dominate over the hosts in the T20 too.

But the scenario was unbelievable, as Tigers demonstrated outstanding performances to dominate over the England side throughout the series (T20) and clinched the series, first ever they played. Bangladesh T20 skipper Shakib Al Hasan also agreed that they never dreamt of a clean sweep.

Bangladesh, taking the bitter experiences of England, certainly will not take Ireland lightly or underestimate, being ahead of the visitors at all aspect. In their last 10 times meeting in the ODI, Tigers won seven and Ireland won two when one match was abandoned.

In the T20 format both the side faced each other for five times with Bangladesh won three and Ireland one when one match was abandoned.

Bangladesh first time had their tour of Ireland in 2008 and played three ODI and won all three matches when at home ground Bangladesh played four and won all the matches but the Tigers yet to play any T20 match at home venue against the visitors when out of five T20 matches, Ireland hosted three matches in 2012, Bangladesh won all and two matches were at neutral venues.

However, BCB has already the squad for first two off three ODIs with making few changes from the winning line-up when the selectors dropped Shamim Hossain and Taijul Islam from the squad, bringing in the batters Zakir Hasan and Yasir Ali, the left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed and left-arm quick Shoriful Islam.

Zakir scored a Test hundred at his debut against India while Yasir has been in the white-ball setup since early 2022. Nasum is an out-and-out replacement for Taijul, while Shoriful Islam could be considered as a backup of seemingly off form Mustafizur Rahman.
