Tigers eyeing to end the year as unbeaten

Published : 25 Dec 2023 08:55 PM

In a bid to end the year unbeaten Tigers will begin their three-match T20 series from tomorrow at McLean Park, Napier, following losing the ODI series and drawing the two match Test series against the hosts New Zealand last week.

Considering the head to contest, New Zealand are far ahead of the visitors when both the teams met for 17 times in the T20 format when Bangladesh have only three wins against 14 defeats. But Tigers will be a bit at upper hands due to the momentum they got after defeating New Zealand in the last ODI of three-match series.

New Zealand defeated Tigers comfortably in their home ODI series and it can be very much predicted that similar outcome would be in T20 fixtures. The Black Caps are a fantastic outfit on their own patch in their home conditions and Tigers will have it tough to match the hosts.

So New Zealand will no doubt start the series favourites but the Tigers will not leave the space without challenge after losing the ODI series.

But the Tigers have huge inspirations before to the last T20 series of the 2023 when they won all three T20 series they played this year and might be they will try to end the year being unbeaten.

To make their dream to success, it would be very much essential for Tigers to have a good organisation that will show some semblance of consistency with their attitude and behaviour on issues to claim win against the Black Caps.

The moral standing of the players should be strong, as in the so many occasions, Tigers suffered defeat just lack of the moral courage and would hold their head high the way they won some matches against the powerhouses.

Tigers have also a happy memory of winning T20 series at their home against New Zealand when they defeated the Black Caps by 3-2 in 2021.

But the series will be something very challenging for the Tigers, as when they play the matches will miss some of their key performers in the series, as Kiwis will play with almost their full strength. Apart from Kane Williamson and Kyle Jamieson and Devon Conway, New Zealand have the players in this squad, who will for the next T20 World Cup 2024.

The condition of the Napier would also be a great challenge for the Tigers to adapt.

Meanwhile, winning last two T20 series against England and Afghanistan at their home, securing a 3-0  and a 2-0 whitewash respectively might be a huge boost up for the Tigers.
