Bangladesh cricket fanatics are counting days for the reply of Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) regarding the Tigers upcoming tour in the island nation.
The latest news is that the proposal sent by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on the quarantine issue did not get a response even on Monday. No further reply means that the Bangladesh cricket team's tour of Sri Lanka is in deep uncertainty.
But even in such uncertainty, the player continue team’s training session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday. As the tour is still reeling from uncertainty, the practice session from the BCB has been dubbed as ‘Skill Training.’ The cricketers who took part in the training have already checked in at the Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon.
The process of starting the practice before leaving the country for the tour, the way the cricketers were planned to stay in a five-star hotel for a week after corona test, is still in place. Team’s training sessions are also in full swing, with the addition of 6 cricketers as the final squad could not be announced. Meanwhile, head coach Russell Domingo, pace bowling coach Ottis Gibson, fielding coach Ryan Cook and trainer Nick Neil are also with the team.
Akram Khan, one of the top officials of the BCB and head of the cricket operations committee in charge of managing and supervising the national team, answered some timely questions.
Speaking with the media on Monday afternoon, Akram Khan said, "Actually, what we are doing now is to arrange everything in advance. These plans have been taken in anticipation of the visit. When will we go, when will the practice start, when will the quarantine test be, where will the cricketers stay - everything were planned out.”
Akram Khan added, "Now we are going ahead with the tour. However, he did not hesitate to admit that the tour is still uncertain. The Lankans have not given us any answer till date. I don't know if they have accepted our demands or not.”
Regarding tour’s uncertainty he said, “SLC has not been able to inform us about the quarantine issue due to the firm stand of the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health. Because the matter is no longer in the hands of the Lankan board. Now, the Sri Lankan board is looking for the green signal of their health ministry. I think they have not replied us because they have not received any positive signal from there.”
