A three-tier security measures have been taken in the port city Chattogram and adjacent areas ahead of Eid-ul- Fitr and Pohela Baishakh.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has issued 12 instructions regarding the safety of houses and financial institutions in the city. It is requested to follow these instructions before returning home.
CMP Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy came up with the direction at the police lines conference room in Dampara on Monday afternoon.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of City Police (Operation) Md. Jahangir presented the overall security plan of the meeting. After that, the representatives of the different organizations expressed their views.
Pohela Boishakh will be celebrated on a large scale in three places of Chattogram city. These events will be organized by the initiative of the district administration at Shirishtala Baishakh Udjapan Parishad, DC Hill Combined Pohela Baishakh Udjapan Parishad and District Shilpyakala Academy.
Rabindra Sangeet Udjapan Parishad for the first time is organising Pohela Baishakh celebrations at Enayet Bazar Women's College grounds in the city.
CMP Commissioner said, 'Any event will not be held after 6 pm. Adequate security measures will be taken. Security fence will be made at the venue. Those who will participate in the events will not bring extra bags. Closed circuit cameras will be installed.
All the entry points of the city like Shah Amanat Bridge, City Gate and Oxygen area have been brought under tight security measures with CCTV monitoring. Necessary instruction has also been given to search the suspicious persons at any points during the celebration period.
Chattogram district police has also taken additional security measures in all 15 upazila headquarters from the previous day of Eid and that will continue for the following three days, SM Sofiullah, superintendent of Chattogram district police told BSS.
On the other hand, RAB-7 has taken all-out security measures to make the festival a total success, RAB Commander Mahbubul
Alam said.
