Four people, including three of a family, died from electrocution in the capital's Mirpur area on Thursday night.

However, a minor boy was survived in a miracle way.

The tragic incident took place on a submerged road near Mirpur Commerce College after heavy rain created water logging in several areas in the capital Dhaka.

According to Inspector Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirpur Police Station, the accident took place near Mirpur Commerce College around 10:30pm.

He further said, three victims died from electrocution as an electric cable snapped and fell on water on the road.

The deceased were identified as Mizan,  a street vendor, his wife Mukta, their seven-year-old daughter Lima and another man named Mohammad Anik.

Hossain, the deceased couple's six-month-old male child, who was also injured in the incident, was survived in a miracle way. The minor baby is currently under the supervision of a neighbour. Earlier, the baby received treatment at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Two Hijras – Amina and Bristi – took the infant, Hossain, to a hospital from the street amid the inclement weather.

Later, Amina and Bristi took an injured Hossain to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Talking to the reporters, Bristi said both she and Amina were at home when the incident took place and they came out after hearing a commotion.

Outside, on the road, they found Hossain floating on water. The baby boy was then taken to the home of a local where some women tried to warm him up by massaging with oil. At one point the child began to have a nosebleed. As he had no family members there, he was taken to the hospital by Amina and Bristi.

Bristi said they handed over Hossain to his parent's neighbours on Friday  at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital where the bodies of his parents and sister were kept.

Local people told that  the family lived in the Jhilpar slum area on Hajipara road. They got electrocuted while trying to cross the road. Anik was electrocuted while trying to save them.

Mizan, hailing from Barishal, used to be a vendor selling ‘sharbat’ and ‘jhalmuri’ in the capital.

He had just returned from Barishal along with the rest of his family, a police officer said citing Mizan's father Nasir Hawlader. Last night he and the family were returning from Mukta's parents' house.
