Detectives arrested three members of the banned militant organisation Jama’atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya, who were trained by Kuni Chin in Bandarban, from Kalyanpur and Gabtoli area in the capital on Monday.
They were active in gathering personnel and logistics with an aim to establish a caliphate in Bangladesh through armed struggle and, if necessary, carry out attacks on key installations and important personalities, police said.
The detained persons were identified as Rana Sheikh alias Amir Hossain, Moshiur Rahman alias Milon Talukder and Habibur Rahman. During the arrest, 3
smartphones and 2 button phones were recovered from them, which had videos and pictures of their training.
Additional Commissioner Harun Or Rashid, chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) the suspects were arrested in a series of raids in the capital’s Kalyanpur and Gabtoli areas.
The DB chief said detained Moshiur Rahman stayed with the Kuki Chin terrorists for 2 years in Bandarban for 8 months training in survival as a commando in a hostile hilly environment, learning PT-parade, unarmed combat, assault rifle operation, making and using explosive devices.
Another member, Habibur Rahman, is a new recruit.
Addl Commissioner Harun said several freed and fugitive members of banned militant organizations Harkat-ul-Jihad (Huji), Ansar Al Islam and Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) united in a new armed group to form Jama’atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya.
He also said the arrested persons were involved in criminal activities with separatist and terrorist groups in the hill districts of Bangladesh.
