Three held for trafficking daughter, mother

Rapid Action Battalion arrested three people in connection with trafficking a woman and her daughter to India on Sunday night.

The arrested were identified as Kalu alias Kallu 40, Md. Sohag alias Nagin,32, and Billal Hossain 41. They were arrested on Sunday night.

RAB Legal and Media Wing Commander Khandaker Al Moin at a press conference in the city on Monday said a young girl hailing from the Pallabi area, was trafficked to India in January this year.

He said, later the mother of victim hiding her identity contacted the trafficking ring to rescue the girl. 

Later she too was trafficked to India like the girl.

The mother of the young girl managed to escape from the gang. Later she found her daughter at red light area in North Dinajpur of West Bengal. 

Subsequently the mother and daughter were brought back to the country through a flag meeting, said RAB.

According to Commander Moin, the Kallu-Nagin gang was involved in human trafficking for long times. They were trafficking women and young girls to neighboring country. They used to traffic girls in the name of providing jobs in India. Their main target was young women from poor and lower middle-class families. 

Kalu is the key leader of the gang. Billal was working as the coordinator in the border area. 

There are also female members in the trafficking syndicate.

Commander Moin said the gang members are active in several areas of Dhaka, including Mirpur, Tejgaon and city’s outskirts Gazipur. 

During the primary interrogation, the arrested human traffickers admitted that they were trafficking young women mainly through land boarders.

Kalu admitted that he used to sell each victim to brokers in neighboring country at Tk 1.5 lakh. 

Billal and his wife Razia Khatun were sentenced to one year imprisonment each in a human trafficking case filed at Pallabi police station in 2016. 

Five years ago, Kalu also suffered jail life.
