Three men died allegedly consuming expired liquor in Pirojpur union under Sonargaon upazila of Natayanganj between January 7 and January 9.
The deceased were identified as Jahidur Rahman Babu, 30, younger brother of Pirojpur UP Chairman Masudur Rahman Masum, Mohsin, 26, and Tofazzal Hossain, 34, Babu’s car driver.
On January 7, five men consumed alcohol at the personal office of Jahidur Rahman Babu and then returned to their own residences. Among these five men, three have died and the rest two are undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Dhaka.
When, all of the liquor consumers fell sick their family members separately rushed them to different private clinics and hospitals in Narayanganj and Dhaka.
The information of expired liquor consumption and thus falling sick was not informed to local Sonargaon Police Station. Police received the information from local sources and the medical certificate of Jahedur Rahaman Babu, where the physician mentioned the cause of death was nsufficient oxygen flow in head and other organs.
Officer In-Charge of Sonargaon police station Mohammad Rafiqul Islam said that both the survivors undergoing treatment and deceased’s family are trying to hide information from the police. Even, the deceased were immediately buried secretly without autopsy.
