The Ministry of Home Affairs has banned the movement of motorcycles for three days countrywide during the upcoming 12th National Parliament Elections slated for January 7, 2024.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a circular in this regard on Thursday (21 December) signed by Md Mostafizur Rahman, senior secretary of Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The circular stated that motorcycles would not be allowed on the roads from January 5 midnight to January 8 midnight. The ban, however, is not applicable on national highways.

The circular also stated that a ban will be imposed on the movement of taxicabs, microbuses, pickups, trucks, launches, and engine-driven boats (except those plying on specific routes) in the voting areas from January 6 midnight to January 7 midnight.

However, this directive shall not apply to candidates, law enforcement agencies, administration, authorised observers, and election agents.

The circular also states that the Road Transport and Highways Division and the Ministry of Shipping can issue further circulars to impose restrictions on vehicles or withdraw restrictions in cases necessary by empowering the District Magistrate or the Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
