Three arrested in Ctg cop murder case

Chandgaon police have arrested the three drug dealers who crushed Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Salahuddin with a microbus in the city.

CMP Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Md Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed the matter through a press briefing on Saturday afternoon.

They were arrested from different places in Chittagong in a special operation at around 8 pm last Friday.

The arrested are Uttam Biswas Prakash (34), son of Krishna Biswas of Pratap Biswas Bari in Boal­khaliUpazila, Md Belal (34), son of ShamsulAlam, Cholaimad vendor Md Rashed Prakash Rashel (26) of the same area and late Jaker Hossain Alam (60).

CMP Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman said the driver of the microbus fled when ASI Salahuddin was killed in a collision with a liquor-carrying microbus, but the microbus was seized from in front of the Meherajkhanghata Asian Fan Industries Limited gate on the same day.  When 730 liters of liquor was recovered from the vehicle, two cases (Chandgaon Thana-Case No. 18, 19) were filed against the driver of the unidentified vehicle and his accomplices under the Murder and Narcotics Act.

 After the case was registered, Chandgaon police conducted a raid last night and arrested the driver of the deadly microbus and his two accomplices from different places in Chittagong.  At that time, a motorcycle given to the microbus was recovered and seized.  The arrested accused had been collecting distilled liquor from different places in Rangamati district for a long time and selling it in Boalkhali and Patiyaupazilas of Chittagong city.  The operation to arrest other fugitives involved in the incident is underway, the DC said in a press briefing.

 It may be mentioned that ASI Salahuddin signaled to stop the microbus carrying distilled liquor in front of the Mehrajkhanghata petrol pump of Chandgaon Police Station and deliberately pushed ASI Salahuddin and Constable Masum to avoid arreston June 11 at 4 am. It caused severe injuries to the head, waist and various parts of the body.  When 2 people were taken to Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital, the on-duty doctor declared ASI Salahuddin dead.
