The letter sent to a Fine Arts Institute’s student threatening attack on Mangol Shobhajatra was only to create panic, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General M Khurshid Hossain said on Thursday.
“No militants were actually involved in circulating the threatening letter. During our primary investigation, we came to know that the only motive behind sending the letter was to create panic,” he told the reporters at Ramna Batamul in the capital after inspecting the security arrangements at the venue for the Bangla New Year celebrations on Friday.
About the additional security initiative for Pahela Baishakh celebrations, the elite force chief said RAB commando team is ready to deal with any kind of untoward situation.
“All RAB battalions have already started special intelligence surveillance across the country. We have taken various additional security measures, including setting up adequate check posts, observation posts in different places of the capital,” he said.
The elite force will take extra ordinary security measures in some important venues including TSC, Shahbagh, Suhrawardy Udyan and Ramna Batamul as the main events are organized there, said the RAB chief.
The main venue would be under RAB’s CCTV coverage and RAB’s Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad are ready to deal with any situation, he added.
