A theft took place in the early hours of Wednesday at the Siddheswari Temple located in the Naldanga area of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila. The unidentified thief reportedly broke the locks on the temple gate to gain entry.
CCTV footage from the temple shows a man, his face partially covered with a handkerchief, entering the premises at around 4:00 AM. He was seen taking some items from within the temple before fleeing the scene.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Manjur Morshed confirmed that he, along with other senior police officials, visited the temple later in the morning and assured the public that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
President of the Siddheswari Temple Management Committee, Bankim Mukharjee, stated that some ornaments adorning the deities were stolen. However, the idols themselves were not vandalised. He speculated that the thief might have initially believed the ornaments to be made of gold or other precious materials, but upon discovering their lesser value, refrained from further theft.
Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, Abdullah Al Mamun, said that police operations are currently underway to apprehend those responsible.
