The Bangladeshi-American film "The Story of a Rock," directed by Zak Mir, has received great praise at the 19th Tasveer Film Festival held in Seattle, Washington. Zak, celebrating this honor, said, "I'm truly honoured to have my film be a part of such a prestigious competition." The festival took place from October 15 to 20 at the Paccar IMAX Theatre, showcasing around 300 films, including 90 short films and 22 feature films.

"The Story of a Rock" tells the touching story of a teenage girl whose life changes dramatically when her mother leaves for the Middle East to find work. This absence creates many challenges for the girl, and a sudden tragedy alters her path completely. The young girl faces hardships such as eviction notices, unpaid tuition, and pressure from a grocery store owner. These harsh realities force her to take on the responsibilities of a housemaid, pushing her into a role that is far too grown-up for her.

Although the film is not based on a true story, Zak Mir says it reflects real-life struggles, especially those faced by women in society. The film features Safana Nomani as Monica, with a strong supporting cast that includes Sahana Rahman Sumi, Nafisa Zarin, Lara Lotus, and Simrin Lubaba.

This powerful narrative about a young girl’s fight against personal and social challenges resonates with audiences today, especially as stories of migration and displacement become more important. "The Story of a Rock" marks a significant achievement for Zak Mir as his debut feature film.
