We are shocked and saddened at the death of Queen Elizabeth II, who had ruled the United Kingdom since 1952 and was also head of state in 14 commonwealth countries around the world. Bangladesh government declared three-days of state mourning marking the death of Queen Elizabeth II terming her a true friend of the country. Besides, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of British Queen.

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, died at Balmoral palace in Scotland on Thursday evening at the age of 96, after reigning for 70 years.

We convey our deepest sympathy to members of the royal family at her death and also pray for eternal peace of the departed soul.

The Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on April 21, 1926. She came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

We convey our deepest

sympathy to members of

the royal family

Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and including Liz Truss, born 101 years later in 1975, and appointed by the Queen earlier this week.

Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne aged just 25 in 1952 in the aftermath of World War II, joining a world stage dominated by political figures from China's Mao Zedong to Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and US president Dwight D. Eisenhower. Her 70-year reign straddled two centuries of seismic social, political and technological upheaval.

Two days earlier the queen appointed Liz Truss as the 15th prime minister of her reign and was seen smiling in photographs but looking frail and using a walking stick.

People across the globe believe that her contribution would long be remembered as she played a significant role in maintaining world peace and prosperity. So, the queen’ death is a “big loss” to the international community. She had been widely admired for her grace, dignity and dedication around the world.

We offer our condolences to the new King Charles III, wishing the new monarch to turn the grief of the loss of his mother into strength and work for the welfare of the neglected, underprivileged, poor and helpless people of the world.

Bangladesh is a member of the commonwealth and the new King Charles III is now the head of the commonwealth. We think the responsibility of the new king is a testimony to trust and confidence of the British people in his leadership to take the UK to newer heights of progress and prosperity.
