Farmer Abu Zahid Ibnul Islam Jewel has benefited from Darjeeling variety of orange orchard in Thakurgaon district. Every tree in the garden bears high amount of fruit. This Indian variety of fruit is in demand in the market as it is sweet and delicious. Thousands of visitors also flock to the garden every day. Darjeeling varieties of oranges are being sold in the garden.

A farmer named Jewel from Malcha village of Pirganj upazila in Thakurgaon district bought a handful of saplings from horticulture 10 years ago and planted them in the land. He increased the perimeter of the garden as expected in two years. Now he has about 300 orange trees in his garden. These fruits produced by the orchards are being sent to different districts of the country including the capital to meet the demand of the local market. Increasing the perimeter of the garden has created employment for many. Indian Darjeeling varieties of oranges are hanging in bunches on each tree in the garden. Garden owner Jewel has started selling oranges produced by the garden since November.

At present, there are eight to nine hundred oranges in each of these gardens of more than 300 trees. Fruit selling activities are going on as huge numbers of oranges are ripe already. Traders from far and wide are rushing to the orchards to buy the produced oranges. From there, he is selling oranges at 150-200 Tk per kg. Seedlings are being produced in the same plot. With the establishment of orchards in the border areas, employment as well as other farmers in the area are being encouraged.

Rahimul Alam, a visitor to the garden, said, ‘I have come from the city to see the orange garden. I saw the garden at Darjeeling. But the beauty of the orange orchard here is that Darjeeling's orchard lacks. And this orange is very sweet. The soil quality in this district is top-notch, it can be understood by looking at this garden. '

Another visitor, Fatema Tu Chogra, said, "I came with my family to see the orange orchard. I have only seen the orange garden in the picture before. Today I actually saw an orange hanging from a tree and there are oranges hanging all over the garden. It looks so beautiful. Eating these oranges does not make me feel like I am eating oranges grown in the soil of my country. Everyone in the family is happy to see the orange orchard.

Mahfizur Rahman, the owner of the orange orchard near the city, came to see the small garden and said that he also has orange trees in my orchard. However, the yield has been much better because of this beautiful garden. Also the size and color of the fruit has been adjusted at once. He came to discuss his garden with the gardener Jewel. Such a garden will benefit the farmers of the country on the one hand and will also play a role in meeting the demand for vitamin C in the country on the other hand. Now, over a thousand people come to see this garden every day.

Abu Zahid Ibnul Islam Jewel, owner of Darjeeling Orange Garden, said, “I hope this garden will produce 10,000 metric tons of oranges this time. My garden is about 10 years old. Yield has started to come after 3 years. Before that I used to sell fruits wholesale. This time the garden has gone viral due to social media. That is why thousands of people come to see this garden every day. But if the farmers come forward to plant oranges in this way, a revolution will take place in agriculture. And oranges do not have to be brought from outside the country.

In this regard, the Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Abu Hossain said, there are Malta and orange orchards in 63 hectares of land in the district.
