We are very concerned about acute shortage of teachers in the non-government secondary schools and colleges across the country. Academic activities at these educational institutions are being seriously hampered due to teacher crisis.

Non-government secondary schools and colleges are providing education to lakhs of students across the country. But due to teacher shortage couple with lack of infrastructure and other logistics, they cannot ensure quality education for the students. Some 96,000 posts of teachers remain vacant in the non-government educational institutions across the country, according to media reports.

Almost all the non-government schools and colleges lack an ideal teacher-studen ratio and as a rrsult, they cannot provide students with quality education. Each teacher at these schools and colleges is taking four to five classes, and the overall pressure on teachers is affecting proper learning.

Some 96,000 posts of teachers

 remain vacant in the non-government

 educational institutions across the country

The government should take necessary steps to fill up the vacant posts of teachers to make academic activities smooth for the students. Many schools and colleges in the country are also running without the required number of qualified teachers.

The number of educational institutions with zero-pass rate in SSC and equivalent examinations has been increasing since 2015, mainly due to lack of qualified teachers, adequate infrastructures. But the government is hardly taking action against poor-performing educational institutions. Educationists blamed the lack of competent teachers, especially for subjects like English, mathematics and science, for the poor performance of these institutions.

Our non-government educational institutions urgently need to fill up the vacant posts of teachers to ensure quality education for the students. If the educational institutions do not have required number of teachers, it would not be possible for them to produce good students who can compete in the global arena.

The government must recruit qualified and meritorious teachers to ensure quality education. The teacher shortage is not only hampering studies of the students but also increasing the cost of education. The situation is forcing us to enroll our children in coaching centres or arrange private tuitor for them. These educational institutions cannot hold regular classes due to teacher crisis, which is badly affecting studies of the students.
