Pop superstar Taylor Swift has officially regained ownership of her entire back catalog of music, ending a long-running dispute that began in 2019. The singer announced the news on Friday through a heartfelt message on her official website.
“All of the music I’ve ever made now belongs to me,” Swift wrote, calling it the fulfillment of her greatest dream. She thanked her loyal fans for their constant support throughout the challenging journey and added, “To my fans, you know how important this has been to me — so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released four of my albums, calling them Taylor’s Version.”
The dispute over Swift’s first six albums started when her former label sold the master recordings without her consent. In response, the singer began re-recording her old albums to take back control of her work. Albums like Reputation and Taylor Swift were among those Swift rereleased under her own ownership.
Now, after years of effort, Swift has purchased her masters from Shamrock Capital, a Los Angeles-based investment firm. Although the exact amount has not been disclosed, the pop icon’s recent record-breaking Eras Tour likely helped fund the deal. The tour, which lasted nearly two years and earned around USD 2 billion globally, included 149 shows in different cities around the world. Each concert typically lasted over three hours and attracted huge crowds, with tickets selling for high prices.
Swift said she feels proud and encouraged by the conversations this issue has sparked within the music industry. Her fight to regain control of her music has highlighted the importance of artist rights, inspiring many other musicians to pay closer attention to their own recording deals.
Taylor Swift’s fans, known as ‘Swifties,’ have warmly welcomed the news, celebrating the singer’s determination and success. With this chapter finally closed, Swift can now fully claim ownership of the songs that made her a global music icon.
