The government is going to waive 10 percent holding tax for every city building that has a rooftop garden.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister, Md Tajul Islam said this while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of tree planting programme and Mist Blower on the occasion of birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, organized by Dhaka North City Corporation on Wednesday.
The minister said, “It has been decided to waive 10 percent of the holding tax on all houses that have rooftop plantations. This decision will be effective from now on”.
“Bangladesh believes in maintaining friendly and good bilateral relations with all countries. We welcome all development partners and organizations to contribute to the development of our country,” the minister added.
Md Tajul Islam said, “We know our country, its soil, people, culture, plants and animals. Therefore, when selecting development projects and implementing them, we should coordinate with the thinking and decisions of development partner countries and organizations”.
“The Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman united the Bengali nation and liberated the country in 1971 through the great war of liberation. He then returned to the country and took all kinds of initiatives to rebuild the war-torn country and brought significant changes in just three and a half years,” added Tajul Islam.
Highlighting the statistics of the country's economy before and after independence, the minister further said, “The country’s per capita income was US$ 94 when Bangabandhu took office. But in just three and a half years, Bangabandhu raised the country’s per capita income to US$ 277.
Not only that, in the war-torn country, progress was made in the development of all sectors including agriculture, education, health, industry, and communication infrastructure”.
Md. Tajul Islam said that after the brutal assassination of Bangabandhu, the country did not develop in that way. After the formation of the first government by Sheikh Hasina in 1996, the development progress of the country started with a new initiative. But despite the slowdown in development from 2002 to 2006, the Awami League came to power in the second term in 2009 and the country's economy began to grow rapidly.
He added that the government came to power in the first three and a half years to make the country self-sufficient in food. In addition, it undertook a number of programmes, including agriculture, industrial construction, power supply, job creation, education and health development, and social security.
Mentioning that the per capita income of the country stood at 2,100 due to the tireless efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Minister said that due to this unprecedented development of Bangladesh, the world today is recognizing Bangladesh as a role model of development. The development path of Bangladesh has become an example to the world, he added.
Nahid Izahar Khan, MP and Helaluddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary, Local Government Department were present as special guests at the function presided over by Md. Atiqul Islam, Mayor, North City Corporation.
Besides, ambassadors of several countries including the United States, Italy, Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia were also present as guests of honor.
