Bangladesh pace bowler Taskin Ahmed turned down an offer from Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League in order to train for the upcoming home series against England.
Cricbuzz understands that Multan Sultans offered Taskin to play for them for three games but the right-arm pacer turned the offer down as he was more inclined to get fully fit before taking on the Englishmen.
Taskin sustained an injury on his left leg during the Sylhet phase of the just-concluded Bangladesh Premier League, country's lone franchise-based T20 tournament, and was later diagnosed with a grade-1 tear. As a result, he missed a couple of matches for Dhaka Dominators. Later, the BCB medical team made a rehabilitation plan for him to make sure he gets fully fit before the series against England, scheduled from March 1 and comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is.
"They (Multan Sultans) wanted me for three matches. Initially they wanted me from February 17 for three matches and afterwards I spoke with the physio and he said I can go but it would be better if I do bit more training (to recover fully from the injury)," Taskin told Cricbuzz on Saturday.
"Now I am fine and I could have gone and played as well but after I spoke with the physio I did not inform the board (about the offer) because I wanted to train well before the important series (against England)," he said.
"It's a matter of couple of matches but by playing there (for Multan Sultans) if I has missed the upcoming series (against England) it would have looked bad. And because I am recovering from an injury it is important that I get fully fit and so I don't have any regrets about missing it (PSL)."
