It was almost certain that pace-man Taskin Ahmed was going to miss the upcoming World Cup in England. However, Taskin’s luck turned around and he is now likely to replace pacer Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi in the World Cup squad. Taskin’s dream of playing consecutive World Cup’s can now become a reality.

When the World Cup squad was announced last month, uncapped Abu Jayed Rahi’s inclusion in the World Cup ahead of Taskin came as a surprise for supporters. At that time, BCB selectors said Rahi’s inclusion in the squad was down to his good ball swinging ability, which is a pivotal in England.

Taskin was also not even in the 17-man squad which was announced for the tri-nation series against West Indies and Ireland. However, later he and Farhad

Reza were added to the squad as backups.

Taskin played the warm-up match against Ireland Wolves and showed his potential by scalping 3 wickets. Meanwhile, Rahi didn’t travelled with the squad and also hadn’t trained much recently for his injury concern.  For this reason Taskin might finally get the nod ahead of Rahi as the 15th man, it was heard from a reliable source yesterday. However, Rahi will still fly with the World Cup squad as a 16th man.

“He (Rahi) didn’t bowl frequently after the BPL for his injury. Local physio told us that this injury would take 3 to 4 days more days for Rahi to be fit again and to continue bowling in the nets again,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said on Friday.

“We have to make change in the squad if there is any injury concern regarding to any player of the team. But Rahi will go with us as a 16th man and we’ll talk about it with the BCB president”, he added.

As it hasn’t been officially decided yet, but according to the chief selector it is no doubt that Taskin will surely replace Rahi in the World Cup squad.
