Published : 11 Oct 2022 07:51 PM

When it rains, water falls from the dilapidated roof of the school building on the students' heads, benches and books. Again, during the teaching period of the class room, plasters constantly fall from the ceiling. Not only that, there are numerous cracks in the classroom walls, ceilings, pillars and grade beams. The floor of four rooms has become almost unusable. And in such a dangerous building, the lives of young children are being taught at risk. And this is the current condition of Nadosaidpur Madhyapara Government Primary School of Tarash Upazila in Sirajganj.

It is known that Nadosaidpur Madhyapara Government Primary School was established in 1946. Currently, around 350 young students from Kindergarten to Class V attend regular classes here.

Nadosaidpur Madhyapara Government Primary School Principal Rafiqur Islam said, the school located on 21 percent land has two buildings, one of which is almost new and of good quality with two rooms. But the new building does not accommodate all the students. As a result, due to the shortage of classrooms, they have to teach school students in a rickety old building with four rooms built in 1960. However, the matter of the delicate and dangerous building has been informed several times in writing and verbally to the higher authorities of the Education and Engineering Department. However, the new building has not been found.

Even then, as much as can be alert, almost 62 years old, young students have to be taught in that building. Although the officials from Tarash Upazila Directorate of Education said to stop teaching in that dangerous building, the head teacher Rafiqul Islam added.

Students of the school, Aysa Khatun, Amina Khatun, Tanjila, said that during class, the roof was covered with water, sand and then they were afraid of collapsing.

Naeem Hossain of the fourth grade said that many students do not come to school on rainy days thinking that the house will get watered by the rain.

In this regard, student guardian Saiful Islam said, Nadosaidpur Madhyapara Government Primary School is facing a crisis of classrooms, and boys and girls are being taught in that dangerous building. They also send their children to school and live in fear of the unknown. Again, one or two parents do not send their children to school, thinking of the danger to the children's lives while teaching in that building.

Apart from that, another student parent of Nadosaidpur Madhyapara village said. Anwar Hossain demanded that considering the precious lives of young students, a new building should be constructed on an urgent basis to meet the shortage of classrooms in Nadosaidpur Madhyapara Government Primary School.

In this context, Tarash Upazila Primary Education Officer Aktaruzzaman said that he has received an application in this regard from the school. And in view of this, he has also sent the proposal for the new building to the concerned ministry. He also said that it is hoped that construction of a new building in Nadosaidpur Madhyapara Government Primary School can be approved this year.
