The triennial conference of Sirajganj’s Tarash upazila Awami League unit was held on last February 14. Six months have passed since then. As the full committee has not been formed yet, the unit is running haphazardly now.
Despite there being various divisions in the party, Sirajganj district Awami League leaders are saying that it was not possible to give approval to the full committee due to the Corona pandemic situation.
According to party sources, after eight long years, former MP Bir Amjad Hossain Milon and former student leader Sanjit Karmakar were elected President and General Secretary respectively in the three-year conference held at Tarash Upazila party office.
After the council, the supporters of Tarash Upazila Awami League practically split into two groups led by current MP Prof Dr Md Abdul Aziz and former MP Gazi MM Amjad Hossain Milon. Besides, there were various activities to get a place in the new committee.
Meanwhile, newly elected President Gazi MM Amjad Hossain Milon was admitted to Enayetpur Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College Hospital on April 10 with lung problems and died there on April 18.
According to party sources, the newly elected president and general secretary jointly signed a 71-member full committee on March 24 before the president was admitted to the hospital.
On April 11, the committee headed by General Secretary Sanjit Karmakar was submitted to the district Awami League for approval but, due to the Corona situation and the death of Gazi MM Amjad Hossain Milon, Sirajganj Awami League could not approve the full committee.
MP Prof Dr Md Abdul Aziz complained about the committee and said the committee was formed without any discussion with him.
If the committee is formed on the basis of discussion, the party will be stronger.
However, General Secretary Sanjit Karmakar denied the allegations and said that it were not true. Seventy-five percent of the leaders and activists from the last two committees have found a place in this committee.
