Zakir & Brothers Mixed Agro Farm and Hatchery has been established at village Kulpala in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district under the auspices of educated youth named Zakir Hossain of the village in 2002. Zakir Hossain's profit is about Tk 3,00,000 after meeting all expenditures every month, so he is a successful entrepreneur.
It is learnt, he is mainly rearing duck at the farm. So, everybody knows him as Zakir. At present he is also cultivating fishes there. Besides ducklings are being bred from eggs of duck through incubator. Sheep is his another item of rearing.
According to sources, he started the farm with 150 ducks investing Tk 1600 in 2002. Today the farm is situated on 250 bighas of land. There are 12,000 ducks and 80 sheep in the farm.
When he was a student of HSC first year, he started duck rearing at his house for maintaining his family and to bear college fees. To sell eggs of duck and ducklings his family has been turned into middle class family. It may be mentioned here, the farm currently has 19 incubator machines for hatching ducklings. About 29,000 ducklings can be hatched from these incubators every month. Two types of ducks are reared in the farm for eggs and meat. There are 24 workers to look after the farm.
It is learnt, over 8,000 eggs are produced daily from the farm. These eggs are being supplied to the businessmen of Chuadanga, Meherpur, Kushtia and Jhenaidah districts.
Yashin Sheikh, manager of the farm, said that he joined at the farm seven years ago. The farm was not big then. Gradually the farm was enlarged.
Masura Khatun, a female worker said, he picked eggs from every shed of duck farm. The salary runs the family along with the children's education.
Zakir Hossain, the owner of the farm, said the beginning was not very easy. Today's farm is the result of patience and hard work. He got Bangabandhu Agriculture Award as a successful entrepreneur.
Dr. Sheikh Md. Moshiur Rahman Chuadanga District Livestock Officer, said initiative of Zakir Hossain is an example in the area for removing unemployment. Unemployment problem may solve through establishing duck farm. Zakir Hossain has proved that.
He also said, advice and assistance is being given to Zakir Hossain by the Livestock Department.
