Tahmina dreams of building a polythene free Bangladesh

Young entrepreneur Tahmina Kabir has been working with Golden Jute for a long period of five years as an alternative to polythene to highlight Bangladesh's heritage, tackle global climate problems. The young woman is dreaming to build a polyethyene free Bangladesh by working with jute, thinking that jute bags will diminish environmental pollution when the bags of polythene are harmful to the environment.

Tahmina Kabir was born in village Nimok Purura of Chandpur union under Katiadi upazila of Kishoreganj district. She graduated from secondary school at Gachihata Palli Academy High School and attended higher secondary at Gachihata College. She is an Honors Final Year student in the Department of Resource Management and Entrepreneurship at Home Economics College.

Tahmina started her venture when she was a student of second year with Tk 2,000. Its products include various shopping bags, ladies' bags, purses, office bags, table mats, runners, ornaments boxes, ornaments; corporate gift items wall mats, logo frames, etc.

From her childhood she was good at drawing. The champion of all time was a scout leader in various sports, poetry and song contests. She worked for many years to prevent child marriage in her village. She is currently working as a master trainer for the menstrual hygiene.

Her whole entrepreneurial life began with the co-operation of Bangladesh Youth Enterprise Advice and Help Centre (BYEAH). At first, they made the path very easy through various suggestions and training. She has been nominated as a potential Young Entrepreneur-2019 of BYEAH. Currently, Tahmina Kabir is getting inspiration from the founding chairman of the CAB, Rajib Ahmed and E-Commerce Forum.

The dreamy young woman started her own business in the company of Dolly's 2017. Although she work's in crafting since at 2016. Her intention was to push herself forward by doing something exceptional. In that endeavor, with the country's heritage, aroused in patriotism, an initiative to produce jute products was made to become a tool against environmental pollution. Already her brand has gained huge popularity.

 In the future, she dreams of working with jute fabric. This dreamy young woman wants to join herself in the fight to make jute as an alternative to polythene.

Tahmina Kabir, a young entrepreneur said that, if I get the help of the government, I will build a factory in the village. Where poor women could work. This will create employment opportunities in the area.

Katiadi Upazila Agriculture Officer Mukshedul Hoque said that, the young entrepreneurs would be more focused on working with golden jute if they get assistance from the government.

Kishoreganj Agriculture Extension Department Deputy Director (Acting) Dr. Mohit Kumar Dey said, polythene is harmful to the environment. Environment and health was in serious risk for the using of polythene. Tahmina Kabir worked with golden jute. We feel proud for her. She is doing such an extraordinary thinks. We will ready to give her assistance from the government.
