West Bengal lyricist and filmmaker Srijato Bandyopadhyay has accused "The Great Indian Kapil Show" of disrespecting the esteemed poet Rabindranath Tagore by mocking his song. He shared his concerns in a passionate Facebook post.

In his statement, Srijato demanded an apology from the show's team for their inappropriate jokes about Tagore's song "Ekla Cholo Re." He warned that if they do not apologise, he may consider taking legal action. Srijato explained that actress Kajol was a guest on the show, and when she arrived, comedian Krushna Abhishek made a disrespectful interpretation of Tagore's song "Jodi Tor Dak Shune Keu Na Ase." He remarked, “It seems Krushna chose to mock a Rabindranath song simply because he had a Bengali actress in front of him. This was not spontaneous; it was scripted. The gestures and comments regarding 'Ekla Cholo Re' crossed the line of respect and decency.”

Srijato urged the channel associated with the Kapil Sharma Show to apologise. He added, “I am writing this post after consulting one of the top lawyers on this matter. If my demands are not met by November 7, 2024, I will take legal action.” Many netizens have supported Srijato's post and expressed their strong opposition to such disrespectful behaviour.
