T-Aman farming project ongoing in Kishoreganj

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken a massive programme to cultivate transplanted Aman (T-Aman) farming in 13 upazilas of the district in the current 2020-21 season (Kharif-2).

Department of Agriculture Extension Office sources said, a total of 82590 hectares of land would be brought under T-Aman paddy cultivation.

The amount of land to be cultivated in the district is: 8375 hectares of land in Hossainpur Upazila, 10600 hectares in Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila, 10905 hectares in Pakundia Upazila, 12850 hectares in Katiadi Upazila, 12845 hectares in Karimganj Upazila, 7435 hectares in Tarail Upazila, 415 hectares in Itna Upazila, 960 hectares in Mithamoin Upazila, 1265 hectares in Nikli Upazila, 875 hectares in Austagram Upazila, 7030 hectares in Bajitpur Upazila, 6865 hectares in Kuliarchar Upazila and 2170 hectares in Bhairab Upazila.

Meanwhile, to bring the land under the farming of T-Aman paddy, the farmers of the district have already prepared seedbed of about 4205 hectares of land where the seedling have grown well.

Deputy Director of the DAE Kishoreganj Md Saiful Alam said, the field workers and crop specialists of the DAE have started rendering their field level services and exchanging views with the farmers to educate them about the modern method of T-Aman cultivation for achieving best yielding rate with minimum production cost.

Earlier, to make the farming programme a success, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and its approved dealers distributed high quality Aman seed to the farmers of the district at fair price. Besides, the authorities concerned have taken adequate steps for ensuring smooth supply of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other necessary input to the growers while commercial banks, other financial institutions and NGOs providing easy term agriculture loans to the poor and marginal farmers to help them cultivate the T-Aman paddy on their land without economic hardship, sources said.
