The Sydney Sixers have claimed their third Big Bash League title after defeating the Perth Scorchers by 27 runs at the SCG on Saturday evening.
Moises Henriques’ side held their nerve to secure their second-consecutive BBL title, becoming the second franchise to achieve the rare feat.
English import James Vince put on a masterclass performance in Sydney, starring with the bat and in the field.
After top-scoring for the Sixers, Vince snared an “unbelievable” catch during the run chase to remove the dangerous Mitchell Marsh, dramatically shifting momentum in his side’s favour.
After being sent in to bat first, the Sixers innings started chaotically with Player of the Tournament Josh Philippe run out in a “monumental mix-up”.
But Vince steadied the ship, regularly finding the boundary with ease as he accumulated a classy 95 in Sydney.
No Sixers player has ever scored a century in the Big Bash League, and for the second time in eight days, Vince fell agonisingly short of the historic milestone.
Late cameos from Daniel Christian and Jordan Silk guided the Sixers to 6/188, with Scorchers pacemen Jhye Richardson and Andrew Tye each claiming two wickets.
Despite some entertaining late hitting from young gun Aaron Hardie, the Scorchers fell 27 runs short of the target.
