Fear and insecurity are now haunting people over possible surprise attacks that may be launched anytime and anywhere in the country during the BNP’s so-called ongoing movement. We have noticed that since BNP’s October 28 rally miscreants continued launching surprise petrol bomb attacks targeting vehicles, especially passenger buses, covered vans, trucks, pickup vans, and CNG-run autorickshaws in the capital city of Dhaka, big cities and towns, and different places of the country. The commuters who witnessed or became the victims of the sneak attacks, got shocked and stunned.

Surprise attack also causes trauma because when the victims recall the deadly incidents they feel unsafe and unsure. But, the BNP is creating panic among the common people in the name of the so-called movement as part of a series of its conspiracy.

The activists of BNP-Jamaat are indulging in arson attacks and various subversive activities to foil the next general election. They are also committing anarchy every day with the diabolical aim of establishing a reign of terror across the country.

They have continued setting fire to public transports. How the perpetrators of arson violence can easily run away from the scene after carrying out the incidents in the presence of law enforcement agencies?

A total of 197 vehicles were torched across the country from October 28 to November 20 during hartals and nationwide blockades imposed by BNP-Jamaat and its like-minded political parties. The Fire Service and Civil Defence was informed about arson attacks on 197 vehicles and installations that took place across the country in the last 24 days. Of the total attacks, 132 occurred in Dhaka division, including 95 in the capital city.

Besides, 22 arson incidents took place in Chattogram division, 24 in Rajshahi, seven each in Barishal and Rangpur, two in Khulna, two in Mymensingh and one in Sylhet division. So, a sense of insecurity and fear has gripped the people.

How the perpetrators

 of arson violence can

 easily run away from

the scene ?

While addressing a function at Dhaka Cantonment marking the Armed Forces Day on Wednesday Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said nothing can be achieved through arson violence, expressing her hope that the BNP-Jamaat alliance will come back to their senses to put an end to the anarchy.

It was the BNP-Jamaat clique which had burnt many people to death, set fire to scores of vehicles and destroyed thousands of roadside trees during 2013-15 in the name of so-called movement to dislodge the government. BNP and its ally Jamaat during 2013-2015 killed some 500 innocent people and injured over 3,500 others in the name of the so-called ‘movement’.

As the BNP leaders have failed to get support from foreigners to oust Sheikh Hasina-led government and put them (BNP) in power, the party let the Jamaat, its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir and anti-liberation forces to carry out arson terrorism across the country again in order to foil the next general election.

The BNP leaders themselves have gone into hiding in ‘cave’ after threatening to overthrow the government. This also made the party’s active leaders and activists demoralised across the country. Simultaneously, the party also became isolated from the mass people as it had no representation in the present parliament.   We think the party would not be able to prevent their leaders from participating in polls this time, if BNP boycott the next general elections.

The commission will organise the polls and the government will provide all-out cooperation to hold a free, fair and neutral elections. Local and foreign observers will observe the polls.

We still hope that the BNP will take part in the polls instead of hatching conspiracy and carrying out surprise attack to destroy the country’s democratic process. But if the BNP continued to try to create anarchy in the name of so called movement, the party must not be allowed to play this game of division in politics.

Members of different law enforcement agencies have to thwart any kind of surprise or sneak attack. We still believe a good sense will prevail upon the BNP leaders and workers as nothing can be gained by burning people.
