The twelfth parliamentary election is centered on the Gazipur-2 constituency, which has gathered a lot of campaigning. This seat consists of a part of Gazipur metropolis near the capital.
A total of eight candidates are contesting in this seat. The main competition will be between Awami League nominated boat symbol candidate State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel and independent candidate senior Awami League leader, brave freedom fighter Kazi Alim Uddin Buddin. Awami League nominated candidate Zahid Ahsan Russell is soliciting votes from the voters by showing the development of the last five years. He is the son of late MP Ahsan Ullah Master. On the other hand, the opponent of the boat, Awami League leader Kazi Alim Uddin Buddin is asking for votes for the truck symbol . Jahangir Alam, the former mayor of Gazipur City Corporation is asking for votes for the Truck symbol on his behalf. By organizing road meetings, both the candidates are making counter statements. Candidate Zahid Ahsan Russell's wife Khadija Russell is praying votes for boat symbol with a group of women workers in the election field. Independent candidate Kazi Alim Uddin Buddin is City unit Awami League Senior Vice President and an educationist. Both the heavyweight contenders are expected to win the election. According to voters, it is difficult to say who will win and who will defeat Zakir Hossain, a voter of Baupara area of the constituency , said, "The candidates are working hardly day and night. The campaign is intense. The voters will respond in this election. I will go to the polling station with enthusiasm."
Humayun Kabir, another voter of that area, said that the supporters are marching in the villages of the metropolis across the city and campaigning. The election will be festive. Supporters are also passing busy time in campaign for their candidates.
