Support centres to be set up for expats near airport

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad has said that initiatives are being taken to set up a support center for expatriate workers near the airport.

The minister said that a support center would be set up to provide immediate necessary facilities including temporary accommodation to the expatriates and returning workers. 

He further said that a hospital and a diagnostic center are also being set up in Vatara area of the capital to provide medical facilities to the expatriate workers at low cost.

The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the allowance distributing ceremony among the expatriate workers' children with disability, organized by the Wage Earners Welfare Board at Bijoy 71 Auditorium of Prabasi Kalyan Bhaban on Sunday.

Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr Ahmed Munirush Salehin spoke as the special guest at the event.

Referring to the present government as an expatriate friendly one, the minister said that the government is always working for the welfare of expatriate workers. 

“As a part of this, an allowance of Tk 12,000 per annum is being provided to expatriate workers' children with disability. Our goal is not just to provide allowances, but also to ensure that children with disabilities recover fully through proper treatment,” he said.

Ahmed Munirush Salehin said, “The contribution of expatriate workers to the country's economy is significant. In recognition of their contribution, allowances are being provided to their children with disability, he added. 

He said that the amount of allowance is not important; the more important thing is that the government is standing beside the families of expatriate workers.

Md Hamidur Rahman, Director General of Wage Earners Welfare Board, presided over the function.

Director General of Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) Md Shahidul Alam, Managing Director of Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL) Md Billal Hossain, Managing Director of Expatriates’ Welfare Bank Md Zahidul Haque and Director of Wage Earners Welfare Board Shoaib Ahmed Khan were present during this time, along with others.
