Sunflower holds huge potential in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, sunflowers are a relatively proved and a good oil seed crop. It is a potential source of high quality edible oil and is second to soybeans as an oil crop. A sunflower seed contains 48pc-52pc of good quality edible oil and 40pc-50 pc of protein.

Sunflower as a crop fits well in the local agriculture system and in most areas in Bangladesh. It is considered as a cash crop with a good return on investment. Sunflower production is a good substitute of farming other crops due to climate hazards like delayed rainfall or flooding. Growing sunflowers is more suitable within the coastal regions due to its high yield & extensive adaptability.  Farmlands that are normally left unused after collecting Aman paddy can be used to grow sunflower with ease. Sunflower seed cultivation is more profitable than some others.
