Sunamganj journo arrested over Facebook post

A journalist from Sunamganj was arrested early on Tuesday in a case filed under Digital Security Act for allegedly posting a defamatory status on Facebook against Mouazzam Hossain Ratan, MP from Sunamganj-1 constituency.

The arrested journalist Mohammad Mahtab Uddin Talukder, 40, is the Sunamganj district correspondent of SA TV and editor of Daily Haorancholer Katha, a local daily of Sunamganj. 

Police arrested him from his residence at Balakapara in Sunamganj town area around 2:00am. 

Delowar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Dharmapasha Police Station, said the case was filed against Mahtab on Monday night by Benuar Hossain Khan Pathan of Uttarbir village under Shelbarash union of Dharmapasha upazila, who is also the general secretary of Shelbarash union Awami League. He is supporter of Mouazzam Hossain Ratan. 

The OC said that it was mentioned in the case statement that the accused updated a Facebook post at 9:45pm on Monday, mentioning that the MP was arrested by Anti-Corruption Commission, which is eventually false and defamatory.
