In Bangladesh, the major summer fruits are Mango, Jackfruit, Litchi, Pineapple, Water Melon, Papaya, Guava, Latkan etc. These fruits are available mainly during the summer season. The mango is called the “King of fruits”. Varieties of juicy ripe mango have pleased the palates of kings and emperors since time immemorial. Mangoes grow widely all over Bangladesh and there are innumerable varieties to charm the connoisseurs. The most popular varieties are Langra, Gopal Bhog, Himsagar, Fazli, Amrupali etc. Best varieties grow in Chapai Nawabganj, Rajshahi, Pabna and Iswardi areas.

Best of the litchis grow in Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Iswardi districts. This juicy fruit does not last long in the markets. Jackfruit is the national fruit of the country. Its surface is thorny but contains very sweet, juicy bulbs inside. A big size jackfruit can be devoured by the entire family for lunch. When it comes to the summer fruits many would say water melon is the best. In the heat and humidity this fruit is preferred as it is high in water content. All in all summer is a good time for fruit lovers. A tour of the markets will prove the point.
