District Agriculture Extension Department and Darshana Carews and Company Sugar Mills have fixed at least 4003.49 hectares of land under sugarcane cultivation with production of 312272.22 metric tons sugarcane in Chuadanga district the fiscal year of 2022-23. Therefore, farmers of the areas are preparing and planting sugarcane with full swing on their plats of land.
Of the total 1,129 hectares of land have been fixed with production of 88,062 metric tons sugarcane outside of Sugar Mills Zone and 2,874.49 hectares of sugar mills own’s land with production of 224210.22 metric tons sugarcane in Mill Zone areas.
It is learnt from Mosle Uddin, Sub-assistant Agriculture Officer of Chuadanga Agriculture Extension Department’s Development Section and Darshana Sugar Mills sources, 780 hectares of land has been fixed with 60840 metric tons sugarcane production in sadar upazila, 29 hectares of land with 2262 metric tons sugarcane production in Alamdanga upazila, 40 hectares of land with 3120 metric tons sugarcane production in Damurhuda upazila, 280 hectares of land with 21840 metric tons sugarcane production in Jibannagar upazila, and 2874.49 hectares of land with 224210.22 metric tons sugarcane production in Mill Zone areas.
The farmers in the upazilas of the district have been planting sugarcane with full swing in their plots of land. Some farmers are preparing their plats of land for planting of sugarcane seeds.
Abdul Al Mamun, a farmer of village Belgasi in Sadar upazila said, Darshana sugar mills authority has been providing him fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation facilities during the cultivation of sugarcane. In the meantime, he received seeds from the mill authority.
Akbar Ali of village Joyrampur in Damurhuda upazila of the district said, the farmers of the village have decided to cultivate sugarcane due to different type of support by the Darshana Sugar Mills this season.
Siful Islam of village Santoshpur in Jibannagar upazila of the district told, he has made a plane for
cultivation sugarcane over increasing price it. Bazlur Rahman, CDA of Darshana Sugar Mills said, they have been monitoring, suggestions and advising the farmers for planting seeds and putting pesticide properly in their fields.
