Hundreds of workers, employees and cane supplying farmers of Mobarakganj sugar mills limited, the state-owned sugar mills in Jhenidah formed human chain on Saturday to press home their 5-point demands at no delay. The protesters stayed with banner, festoons and placards.
Organized by Akhchasi Kalyan Samity, a society of the sugarcane producing farmers and Sramik Karmachari union, a
platform for the workers and employees. The human chain was formed at the main gate of the mills on Jhenidah-Jashore highway in the morning.
President of Mobarakganj sugar mills limited, also bargaining secretary of workers federation Golam Rasul, sugarcane farmers welfare association general secretary Masudur Rahman Mantu, sugar mills workers union general secretary Shariful Islam among others spoke on the human chain.
The protesters had urged upon the authorities to leave the decision to close mils, ensure payment of the workers, employees and sugarcane farmers, supply production materials and fertilizers, etc. before starting the crushing season.
The protesters had warned tougher action if the demands are not meet up at an early time.
