The Ambikacharan Roy Scholarship was awarded in Ulipur, Kurigram, on Monday morning at 10:00 am in the courtyard of the Gobinda Jiu Temple.
The event was organised by the Ambika Foundation and financially supported by Professor Nikhil Chandra Roy, former principal of Chauddagram Government College and son of Ambikacharan Roy, along with Rabindranath Roy, manager of NCC Bank’s Rangpur branch and grandson of Ambikacharan Roy.
This year, the scholarship was awarded to seven meritorious and underprivileged students from the upazila.
Among those present were Geeta Roy, wife of late Subhash Chandra Roy (eldest son of Ambikacharan Roy and former Assistant Professor of Bengali at Ulipur Government College), second son Gokul Chandra Roy, grandson Debabrata Roy, Principal of Ulipur Mohila Degree College, Lecturer Utpal Roy of Kurigram Government College, and Dr Sajib Kumar Bonik, Assistant Professor of History at Dhaka University and grandson-in-law.
Professor Nikhil Chandra Roy stated that this initiative, launched in 2020 in honour of his father’s memory, has now been carried out for the sixth time.
Ambikacharan Roy served over 40 years as a teacher at Durgapur Government Primary School and was involved in the anti-British Swadeshi movement. He passed away in 1989.
