A several hundreds of students of Shailkupa Girls High School in Jhenidah have been appearing in yearly examinations ignoring “strike” called by some of the teachers. The teachers are now in work abstention since May 15 this year.
The strike was called when the teachers demanded removal of its headmaster Dilara Yesmin Joarder for her alleged involvement in defalcating money, misbehave with the teachers and staff and filing case against some teachers and staff following abuse of the headmaster.
But headmaster Joarder had denied of the allegations and said a vested quarter has been instigating the teachers and staff so that she might leave the institution.
When this correspondent visited the examination halls during examination, came to know nine teachers and three employees were furnishing their duty. A few hundred innocent students sat for the examination, were almost panicked due to quarrel among the teachers. Some of the examinees said they were worried as the teachers made them hostage during the examination. Examination in peaceful environment could ensure better results in the annual examinations.
Some guardians said the internal conflict of the teachers have thrown the children in an uncertain situation as they were minor. The situation is enough to destroy the credibility of any reputed educational institution faster. He demanded immediate resolve of the crisis.
Some of the teachers observing work abstention for a long, said the headmaster had filed fake abusive case against 28 persons including assistant headmaster of the school Fazlur Rahman. The headmaster has been conducting examinations with class three employees ignoring the norms of the board.
Upazila secondary education officer (USEO) Shamim Ahmed Khan when contacted said work abstention by the teachers during the yearly examinations, was unfortunate and a matter of sorrow as the students have sat for their better life through the yearly examination. The members of the school management committee might come to a solution to resolve the crisis, USEO said.
