Strict lockdown in Rohingya camps

Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar has been declared a 'strict lockdown' for ten days from Friday due to the increase in corona virus infection. And 5 camps in Ukhia-Teknaf have been severely locked down for 1 week.

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Parvez Chowdhury said, ‘As per the decision of Cox’s Bazar District Corona Prevention Committee, lockdown has been given in Border UpazilaTeknaf from May 21 to May 30.

Strict lockdown will be implemented in the upazila as coroner infections are on the rise and the area is inhabited by Rohingyas. Miking is being done in the upazila in this regard.

Meanwhile, 5 camps have been locked down for one week from Friday due to sudden increase in corona infection among Rohingyas.

Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Samsuddauja said Camp 24 in Teknaf and Camps 2, 3, 4 and 15 in Ukhia had been locked down due to the increase in infections.

A one-week lockdown has been announced due to an increase in coronary heart disease. All activities in the camp have been stopped. However, the activities of medicine and food will continue.

According to the Cox's Bazar Health Department, coronavirus has been found in the bodies of 623 Rohingyas in the Cox's Bazar camp so far. So far, 12 Rohingya have died from the coronavirus.

Incidentally, after August 25, 2016, more than seven lakh Rohingyas took refuge in Bangladesh after fleeing from the army's torture in Myanmar's Rakhine state. Even before this, 4 lakh had been taken at different times. In all, there are currently more than 1.1 million Rohingyas in 34 refugee camps in Ukhia and Teknaf.
