We have already prepared a list of buildings from which sewage lines are directly fed into surface drains or canals. According to the list from September 1, raids will be conducted in Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan areas and strict measures will be taken.

Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Md Atiqul Islam said these things in the chief guest's speech at the exchange meeting on sewage management with the leaders of the societies of Gulshan, Baridhara, Banani and Niketan areas in Gulshan-2A Nagar Bhaban hall in the capital on Tuesday.

Calling the people to take responsibility for building a clean city, the mayor said, “I want to say that Valentine's Day is one day, let us love the city every day. To keep the canals of the city clean, every house has to manage sewage at the source.”

He also said, “Since the canals were handed over to the City Corporation, we have been working to rescue the canals. While retrieving the canals, we saw that the sewage of various houses and other buildings were connected directly to the surface drains and canals. As a result, the canals are getting polluted.”

Announcing the warning, the DNCC Mayor said, “We are regularly cleaning the lake, cleaning the canals and drains, but the sewage lines of the houses are constantly polluting the canal. As a result of pollution, instead of fish farming in the canal, mosquitoes are being farmed there. It cannot be allowed to happen anymore. Sewage lines shall not be placed in surface drains or canals.”

He also said, “If you manage your own sewage, you will not have to pay any separate bill for sewage. We have already discussed this matter with WASA. I appeal to the leaders of various societies to do this waste management work with responsibility. The city will not be allowed to be dirty again.”

DNCC Mayor said, “It cannot be that you live happily in the elite areas of the city and pollute the canal by connecting your sewage to surface drains and canals. Strict action will be taken against it.”

DNCC Mayor called for people's cooperation in city waste management to build a clean city.

He even announced to reward building owners for proper waste management.

Architect Mobaswer Hossain was present as a special guest in the meeting. Besides, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Salim Reza, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Muh Amirul Islam, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore SM Sharif-ul Islam, Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan Society leaders, DNCC councilors and senior officials were also present.
