Stress on proper use of social media

On the occasion of Mujib Barsho, MOVE Foundation- a youth-led non-profit organization hosted a day-long seminar titled ‘Misinformation Management on Social Media” on Monday at Zubo Bhavan of Dhaka city. Country’s prominent social media experts, young politicians and human rights activists were present at the seminar.

Saiful Haque, President of MOVE Foundation inaugurated the day-long workshop through welcome speech while Akhtaruz zaman Khan Kabir, Director General of Department of Youth Development spoke as chief guest in the seminar. He said misinformation on social has emerged as one of the most critical threats of our time. Misuse of social media lead a country full of violation and hatred.

The speakers urged all to use proper way using social media to prevent intolerant behaviour, hate speech and spreading misinformation. They said that youth can play the most important role in forestalling extreme reactions and violence in sensitive issues. So, we must create a favourable atmosphere on social where all easily can share their thoughts freely.

Among others, Sumaiya Tanim of MOVE Foundation on Misinformation management, Saddam Hossain, AGS of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and Monir Hossain Khan of Youth Development as special guests spoke at the seminar. Around 70 students of different universities of the country took part at the seminar. Certificates were distributed among the participants.

Meanwhile, MOVE Foundation is a youth-led non-profit organization formed by a group of young professionals and students in 2013. It aims to increase social inclusion of the excluded, especially, the Qawmi Madrasa graduates, religious and ethnic minorities and underprivileged, and create interfaces for communal harmony.
