Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman (Additional Duties) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Alamgir said that quality standards should be ensured in higher education in universities.  Attention should be given to research and innovation.  Industry-academia collaboration should be strengthened.  Therefore, long-term strategic planning of the universities will be adopted.  Every university in our country has its own potential.  Maybe we have resource limitations.  But we have to create a mentality to move forward by ensuring the maximum use of those limited resources.  A university is a field where a student can nurture his thoughts and bring them to fruition.

CUET said these things in a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of 21st University Day-2023 at the central auditorium of the university on Sunday morning in the chief guest's speech.

CUET Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam was the guest of honor in the event and Ekushey Medal awarded and Dainik Azadi Editor MA Malek, the first newspaper of independent Bangladesh, was the main speaker.

The meeting was presided over by Director of Student Welfare Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim.  Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof. Dr. Sunil Dhar, Dean (Acting) of Faculty of Architecture and Planning Prof. Dr. Md. Moinul Islam, Dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering Prof. Dr. Sudeep Kumal Pal, Dean of Faculty of Electrical and Computer Technology Prof. Dr.  Mohammad Samsul Arefin.  Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty and University Registrar (Additional Charge) Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir gave a welcome speech.

At the beginning of the program, Deputy Director (Information and Publication) Mohammad Fazlur Rahman screened a documentary on CUET.

CUET Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said that CUET has positioned itself as one of the best universities in the country in two decades.  Contributing to higher education and research.  An atmosphere of research culture has been created among teachers and students.  Our graduates are showing their talent and skills in the country and abroad.  Our position in the global ranking has also been consolidated.  I want to move the university forward with everyone's help. I wish everyone Happy University Day.

Dainim Azadi Editor MA Malek said, "The policy of the media is to just work.  We don't sit around hoping for recognition.  Dainik Azadi has historically played a role in the development and progress of Chittagong.  My father late Abdul Khalek, founder editor of Azadi, was the first Muslim engineer in Bangladesh.  Dainim Azadi played a leading role in the movement-struggle for the conversion of BIT to CUET out of a sense of responsibility towards the engineers.  CUET is a fertile land of genius.  So we rejoice in any achievement of CUET.  We expect CUET to play a stronger role in the development and planning of Chittagong.

After the discussion meeting, blood donation program, friendly football match and prize distribution were held at CUET Medical Center.

Before this, the program started by hoisting the national flag and the university flag from the front of the administrative building-2 of the university.  The day-long program was inaugurated with the release of balloons and peace doves and a joyous rally.

Teachers, officials, staff and students of the university participated in the rally by playing colourful flutes-vuvuzelas and drums and a commemorative tree was planted.

Its know that, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) made its debut as the only higher education institution for engineering and technology education and research in the south-eastern region of Bangladesh on September 1, 2003.  The institution started as 'Chittagong Engineering College' on 28 December 1968 under the Faculty of Engineering of Chittagong University.  Later, on July 1, 1986, it was established as an autonomous 'BIT, Chittagong'.  Currently there are about 6,000 students studying in CUET, including 4,800 undergraduates and 1,200 postgraduates against 920 seats (total 931 seats including tribal quota) in 12 departments.  Besides, CUET is moving forward as a family with around 340 teachers, 170 officers and 460 employees including 101 PhD degree holders.
