A little over a month away from Stranger Things returning to Netflix, the show's creators have teased what lies ahead for the fantasy series.

As previously announced, the show's fourth chapter – divided in two parts – will premiere on May 27 and July 4, while the Hawkins gang will bow out in season five, set to be the last.

Speaking to SFX for its latest issue, creators The Duffer brothers have said that nothing is set in stone when it comes to season five, except for one thing.

"Once we actually really sit down and write down that final season anything could change," Ross said, before Matt added: "But I doubt the ending ending is going to change."

The Duffers were tight-lipped about what the series finale might entail, but agreed on one point: "We know what the ending is."

Though the ending has evolved from what they originally had in mind, it's unlikely it's going to be dramatically different from their plans.

"It's conceivable that it changes but I think it's unlikely because it's one of those endings that just feels, and always felt, right," Matt said.

"And it also feel sort of inevitable," he added.

Before investing too much energy into imagining what this ending could be, let's focus on the fourth instalment which is well underway. As per its full-length trailer, season four resumes six months after the battle of Starcourt that closed the third chapter.

In the clip, Max (Sadie Sink) speaks to the grave of her late brother Billy, saying that everything in Hawkins has been a "total disaster".

And she is quite right, as the trailer gives glimpses of a terrifying new monster and fans learn there is a war at play, one that only Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) might help win. Perhaps with the help of David Harbour's Chief Hopper, who's been revealed to be alive and mostly well... somewhere in Russia. -Digital Spy
