Covid-19 cases and deaths that result from is has gripped the country and government in fear. The country wide lockdown preventing people from gathering and ensuring social distancing has so far been able to keep the spread of the virus at bay. However, with offices and production facilities closed down people wonder how long the country can survive in the face of this pandemic. With the holy month of Ramadan just one month away, this virus is not helping the situation.

Under such condition and crises it is imperative for the dealers of essential goods to contain the price of commodities as much as possible. In cities, there have been dispersed incidents of citizens stockpiling food and other essential commodities at home for the lockdown of the country and for going into self isolation. This has adverse impact on the food economy of the country as some people will get more than others through this. Also, this might see the advent of syndicates that might try to profit from the misery of the country.

There is no reason for people to be worried.

Still, the market has come under  pressure

and prices have gone up

A report published in this daily projects that huge quantities of products are in import pipeline which will help keep supply and prices of essentials normal during the holy Ramada. On top of that there will be various monitoring cells active all around the country under the supervision of commerce ministry, food ministry, agriculture ministry and also mobile courts which will work to deter any unruliness among the shop owners and dealers.

Also, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Food say that there are sufficient reserves of these products. Traders also admit there is no shortage of essential commodities. Calling against stockpiling of food, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that still 17 lakh metric tonnes of food are in reserve in the government warehouses.

This proves the fact that stocks of different essential commodities, including oil, pulse, onion, garlic and salt are abundant. Also, the overall stock in this year is around 40 percent more than the previous year.
