Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that the country is producing enough potatoes. Initiatives have been taken to increase exports to ensure fair price of potatoes.
The Commerce Minister was speaking as the chief guest at a press conference organized by Apu Munshi Memorial Trust and Rotary Club of Uttara at Rangpur Circuit House on Friday.
“The country's exports are increasing day by day. This year, the export revenue target has been set at USD 51 billion. The income from potato export will contribute to this. The government is aware of potato production, consumption and export,” he said.
The Commerce Minister said that a number of steps have been taken to enhance the quality of healthcare in the Rangpur region. Initiatives have been taken to build a cancer hospital in Rangpur at a cost of around Tk 100 crore. Initiatives have been taken to improve the quality of medical services of Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital.
In addition, the work of the 50-bed "Cancer Hospital Project-Rangpur" at a cost of about Tk 15 crore at the Apu Munshi Memorial Trust Rangpur is progressing fast. Rotary Club Uttara of Dhaka has come forward to cooperate in this.
The government as well as the private sector has come forward to ensure human health care, he added.
Responding to a question from reporters, the minister said the country has taken several steps to keep the prices of essential commodities normal. Market monitoring has been strengthened. The Ministry of Commerce is working with utmost importance so that the consumers are not deceived. The government is keeping a close watch on the import of edible oil, pulses, sugar and onions so that they can be sold at reasonable prices.
Earlier, Commerce Minister Apu Munshi inspected the construction work of the Memorial Trust's Cancer Hospital. A delegation of Rotary Club of Uttara, Dhaka was present at the time.
