Stepmother gets life for killing child in Rajbari

A Rajbari court on Wednesday sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for killing her stepson by pesticides at Pangsha upazila in the district in 2010.

At the same time, she has been fined Tk 20,000, in default of payment, she will have to suffer one year more in prison.

Rajbari District and Sessions Court Judge Mosammat Zakia Parveen gave the verdict in the afternoon.

The convict Aklima Akter, 35, hailed from Shakkhirpur village under Habaspur union of the upazila.

The court public prosecutor Advocate Wazir Ali Sheikh confirmed it.

According to the case statement, on August 10, 2010, Aklima Akter killed her four-year-old step son Ripon by applying pesticides due to a quarrel with her husband's another wife.

In the incident, Aklima's husband Hazrat Ali filed a murder case with Pangsha Model Police Station.

After filing the case, Aklima Aktar was arrested by the police and she gave a confessional statement under section 164 in the court.
