State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury MP said there are 10 ferries in Shimulia of Munshiganj, 21 in Paturia of Manikganj and 4 in Aricha for transporting vehicles. In the morning there is extra pressure of passengers and vehicles in Shimulia. This is leading to some difficulty.

“There is discipline in the wharf. According to the previous instructions, large vehicles are not being allowed to cross the ferry in Shimulia. Small cars are passing. I am again requesting to use the Paturia route to get rid of the extra traffic pressure in Shimulia,” he said.

The state minister said this while inspecting the Shimulia (Mawa) launch and ferry terminal at Munshiganj on Friday.

Among others, BIWTC Chairman Shamim Al Razi and BIWTA Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq were present on the occasion.

The state minister said, "Despite the extra pressure of the people at the wharf, we have been able to maintain order."

Officials of BIWTA, BIWTC, law enforcement, district and upazila administration are also trying to serve the people by considering the holy Shab-e-qadar. People are going to celebrate Eid with joy. There will be no suffering, he added.

“Considering the overall safety of the Padma Bridge, 10 good quality ferries have been kept at Shimulia. I request you to follow the instructions of the government. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will open the Padma Bridge to traffic in the next few months,” he said.

Then there will be no problem in Shimuliaghat.

The ferry will wait for the car at the wharf. There is no opportunity to charge extra for the launch. There are magistrates at the wharf; they are looking into the matter, he added.
