Netflix’s Korean hit series Squid Game has returned with its third and final season, setting a new record by reaching 60.1 million views within just three days of its release. This marks the highest-ever three-day viewership for a non-English title on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 chart, according to Netflix data reported by Variety.
The season premiered on June 27, a Friday, which limited the official counting period to only three days within the platform’s Monday-to-Sunday tracking week. For comparison, the previous season, released in late December, recorded 68 million views in its first week and still held the record for the highest debut until now. Season 2 surpassed the popular American show Wednesday (2022), which had 50.1 million views in its debut week.
Squid Game follows the story of Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who now attempts to bring down the deadly survival game from within. He faces off against the mysterious Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), and the season explores themes of betrayal, survival, and the battle between compassion and cruelty.
The third season features returning stars Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-jun. It also introduces new cast members Kang Ha-neul and Yim Si-wan. The season finale surprised fans with a cameo appearance by Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, hinting at exciting possibilities for the story’s future.
Since its original debut in 2021, Squid Game remains Netflix’s most-watched series of all time, accumulating over 16.5 billion viewing hours in its first 28 days. The show’s immense popularity helped launch a spin-off reality series, Squid Game: The Challenge, and boosted global interest in Korean entertainment on streaming platforms.
