‘Spontaneous participation of people needed to control spread of dengue’

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam said that spontaneous participation of people from all ages is needed to control the spread of aedes mosquito, dengue and chikungunya.

He said this while addressing a public awareness programme on Sunday morning, marking the spread of Dengue and Chikungunya in the area of Gausul Azam Avenue at Sector 12 and 13 of Uttara.

The DNCC mayor said, "We have to build a social movement in the light of the timely slogan, 'Let's clean our houses every Saturday for 10 minutes at 10 am'.All of us should take part in cleaning our homes without any shame”,

The mayor said that in order to ensure that no one suffers from dengue and chikungunya during the Covid-19 pandemic, the people of Dhaka North City Corporation are conducting a 10-day mosquito eradication campaign in 54 wards of 10 regions simultaneously from July 27 to August 8.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said that necessary legal action such as large sums in fineswould be in works as soon as aedes mosquito larva is identified in any government or private entity.

He said that, flower tubs, unused tires, coconut shells, various types of open packets or pots, roofsetcshould be taken care of so that water does not accumulate on them for more than three days.

Md. Atiqul Islam said free dengue testing has been arranged in 46 urban health centers of Dhaka North City Corporation for the benefit of the city dwellers.

He said that "Shaoar Dhaka" mobile app is available in the civic service, the contact number 333 in the emergency service and hotline numbers 09602222333 and 09602222334 of DNCC are active.

The DNCC mayor said provider of the informative pictures about the existence of aedes mosquito would be rewarded through ShobarDhaka mobile app.

Atiqul Islam further said that in order to protect the city and the country, in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19, everyone has to abide by the government guidelines and health rules.

After his keynote address as the chief guest, the DNCC mayor visited various areas of Uttara in an open truck equipped with various anti-aedes mosquito, dengue and chikungunya banners and festoons to raise public awareness among the city dwellers.

During the inspection, the mosquito breeding environment was identified in the vicinity of RAJUK constructed buildings in the Diabari area of Uttara Sector 17, Ward 52, DNCC.The RAJUK Chairman was instructed on his mobile phone to take necessary steps within two days.

Chief Health Officer of DNCC Brigadier General Md. Jobaidur Rahman and local councilors were present among others.
