The ongoing development projects around the country are a sight to behold. From Teknaf to Tetulia there are mega projects all over the country which are under way and when completed will play a crucial part in the country’s overall development. Recent reports published in this daily say that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the officials of all ministries to speed up work of the ongoing development projects. Prioritisation is an important factor in this regard. The importance of the mega projects have to be weighed and the ones which are at the top of the list need to be finished very soon.

The Prime Minister has urged that the budget allocated in the fiscal year should be appropriately used and that no wastage takes place. The budget shows a whopping 26 percent of the total 5,23,190 crore budget has been allocated to the development of communications, i.e. roads, bridges, railways and other such communications.

Now, it is known to everyone that the Padma Multipurpose Bridge and the Metro Rail are the two communication development projects going on at the moment and more are present on the to-do list. But if the mega projects are not completed soon then the budget which has been allotted for the completion of these projects will fall insufficient. The price of materials like cement, iron rod and concrete fluctuate all the time and there is no telling when the price might increase. That is why these projects are of the utmost importance and must be completed first.

The authorities concerned should take heed of the Prime Minister’s directives and take actions appropriately. The prioritisation of mega projects to be completed will be of instrumental importance. Completing one mega project after the other will take Bangladesh slowly forward to the long awaited ‘Sonar Bangla’.
